Fabio Filippini, born in Ghislarengo, Italy, in 1963, is a distinguished Italian car designer whose career spans several decades. Known for his leadership and innovative approach to automotive design, Filippini has worked with some of the most renowned brands and design studios in the world.

Filippini began his education in design in 1983 at Scuola d’Arte Applicata e Design in Torino, followed by a Master’s degree in Architecture and Industrial Design at Politecnico di Milano in 1989. His professional journey started in 1985 at Open Design in Torino, where he worked on various projects for Mitsubishi Motors, SEAT, and Scania. In 1989, he moved to Japan to work with Design Club International, where he gained valuable experience with Japanese and European car manufacturers.

In 1993, Filippini joined Renault Design Industriel under Patrick Le Quément. He contributed to advanced design programs and was involved in creating the interior of the Renault Initiale Paris concept car. His role at Renault evolved, and he later became the Director of Renault Design Paris, where he managed a 30-person team and worked on significant projects such as the Renault Laguna III, Mégane III, and Scénic III. In 2008, he was promoted to Vice-President of Interior Design, overseeing the design strategy for the company’s range of vehicles, including the Renault Clio IV, Twingo III, and Zoé.

Filippini’s career took a major turn in 2011 when he joined Pininfarina as Vice President of Design and Chief Creative Officer. Under his leadership, Pininfarina produced several award-winning concept cars, including the Pininfarina Cambiano, Pininfarina Sergio, and BMW Pininfarina Gran Lusso Coupe. He also led the design of the groundbreaking Pininfarina H2Speed, the first hydrogen-powered track car.

In 2018, Filippini moved to Tokyo, where he now works as an independent car designer and design strategy advisor, continuing to influence the automotive industry with his expertise. In addition to his design work, he serves as an international judge at renowned classic car concours events such as Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance and Salon Privé.
