Introduce
Murat Günak, born on 9 August 1957 in Istanbul, is a prominent Turkish car designer known for his influential roles in the automotive industry. He has held prestigious positions, including Head Designer for Volkswagen and Mercedes-Benz.
Günak began his design education at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste in Kassel before pursuing a Master of Automotive Design at the Royal College of Art in London. Under the mentorship of renowned designers Claude Lobo and Patrick Le Quément, he honed his skills and gained sponsorship from Ford.
Starting his career at Ford in Germany, Günak later joined Mercedes-Benz, where he worked for eight years. In 1994, he became Head of Design at Peugeot, where he contributed to iconic models like the Peugeot 206 CC. Returning to Mercedes-Benz in 1998, he served as Vice President for passenger car design. In April 2003, Günak joined Volkswagen as Head of Design and, by 2004, became responsible for design activities across the Volkswagen Group. He was succeeded by Walter de’Silva in 2007.
Following his tenure at Volkswagen, Günak explored innovative projects. He was CEO of Mindset AG in 2008 and later contributed to the French electric vehicle project Mia electric from 2011 to 2013. Subsequently, he joined Tretbox (now Ono) to focus on electric vehicle design.
Since 2018, Günak has collaborated with Togg to design the Togg T10X, working alongside Pininfarina. His career reflects a commitment to blending innovation and aesthetics in automotive design.
