Alfa Romeo 147

The Alfa Romeo 147 Restyling by Giugiaro.

Vehicle Overview

The Alfa Romeo 147, a compact family hatchback produced from 2000 to 2010, received a significant facelift at the end of 2004. Originally designed by Walter de Silva and Wolfgang Egger at the Alfa Romeo Styling Center, the updated version was restyled by Giorgetto Giugiaro at Italdesign, aligning the model with Alfa Romeo’s evolving design language, and visually connecting it with newer models such as the 159, Brera, and the Visconti concept. This restyling introduced a number of visual and technical enhancements intended to extend the model’s appeal and relevance in a highly competitive segment. Externally, the 147 was refreshed with a revised front grille, narrower, more aggressive headlamps, and a redesigned bumper, giving the car a sharper and more assertive presence on the road. At the rear, new light clusters and a reprofiled bumper enhanced the car’s proportions and added cohesion to the updated design. Inside, the facelift brought changes to materials, color combinations, and dashboard detailing, improving tactile quality and visual harmony. These updates were applied across the range, with the exception of the high-performance GTA version, which retained its unique configuration. The result was a cabin that better reflected the model’s premium aspirations, offering a more refined and driver-focused experience. Mechanically, the facelift introduced a more powerful diesel engine option, broadening the appeal of the 147 to efficiency-conscious drivers. The suspension system also received refinements aimed at improving handling precision and ride comfort, enhancing the 147’s dynamic performance while maintaining the brand’s characteristically sporty feel. With these updates, the Alfa Romeo 147 remained a distinctive choice in the compact segment, combining Italian design flair, engineering sophistication, and practical dimensions. Giorgetto Giugiaro’s restyling successfully modernized the model without losing the essence of the original, ensuring visual continuity across Alfa Romeo’s lineup and reinforcing the brand’s commitment to elegance, innovation, and driver engagement.
