Vehicle Overview

Chassis number 915.510 is an Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 Super Sport, part of a limited production batch manufactured between 1942 and 1943. This specific chassis was originally commissioned during the Second World War for the Oberkommando der Wehrmacht in Northern Italy but was never delivered due to the disruption of wartime logistics and the eventual suspension of non-essential manufacturing. After the war, the chassis remained in Alfa Romeo’s storage facilities until it was assigned in 1945 to Count Carlo Felice Trossi, a well-known racing driver and patron of Italian motorsport. The bodywork for chassis 915.510 was executed by Carrozzeria Touring of Milan, utilizing their patented Superleggera (super lightweight) construction system. This method combined a tubular steel frame with thin alloy panels, achieving both structural rigidity and reduced mass. The body style was a two-seat coupé with a three-box configuration. The design incorporated a sculpted bonnet, a reduced front grille typical of Touring’s wartime and postwar output, integrated bumpers, and embedded headlamps. Count Trossi requested a series of modifications, including the adoption of four front headlights in place of the standard two, elimination of side chrome trim, and adjustments to the beltline and fender volume. These revisions emphasized both functionality and the vehicle’s understated profile. The interior featured twin bucket seats, a spartan metallic dashboard, a black Bakelite steering wheel, and Borrani wire wheels. The coupé was painted in a subdued London grey with black wheels, reflecting Trossi’s conservative stylistic preferences. Mechanically, the 6C 2500 Super Sport chassis was fitted with Alfa Romeo’s inline-six 2.5-litre engine with triple carburetion, coupled to a four-speed manual gearbox. Performance specifications for the period placed the model among the more capable grand touring cars available in postwar Europe. Following its completion in 1946, chassis 915.510 was used by Count Trossi in various official and ceremonial contexts, including the postwar Paris Motor Show, where it was presented unofficially by the Italian delegation. The Alfa Romeo 6C 915.510 is one of the earliest and most individualized examples of the 6C 2500 SS series built after the war, incorporating elements that would influence later production. It is preserved in restored condition.
