Alfa Romeo 8C DoppiaCoda Zagato

The Alfa Romeo 8C Doppiacoda one-off by Zagato.

Vehicle Overview

The Alfa Romeo 8C DoppiaCoda Zagato is a one-off concept vehicle created by the Milanese coachbuilder Zagato in collaboration with Alfa Romeo. Unveiled at the 2025 Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este where it won the Design Award, the car is based on the mechanical platform of the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione (produced from 2007 to 2010) and serves as a design tribute to Alfa Romeo’s historical and stylistic legacy. The project was commissioned by a private Italian collector and designed entirely in-house by Zagato. It follows the Atelier’s 2023 Giulia SWB project and represents the final link in a series of modern reinterpretations of Alfa Romeo’s most iconic models. The 8C DoppiaCoda pays homage to both the brand’s design heritage and Zagato’s tradition of aerodynamic innovation, particularly in the treatment of the rear bodywork. The vehicle’s most distinctive design feature is its rear “double tail” configuration, a contemporary fusion of two of Zagato’s hallmark elements: the rounded tail and the Kamm-tail (Coda Tronca). This unified tail section combines visual presence with aerodynamic efficiency. A fixed rear wing, visually detached from the body but integrated into the overall silhouette, contributes to both styling and downforce. The front of the car features revised air intakes and sharper headlight profiles, while a contrasting black roof emphasizes its low and wide proportions. Inside and out, the car exemplifies handcrafted detailing, with a focus on purity of form and material precision. Mechanically, the DoppiaCoda retains the naturally aspirated 4.7-liter V8 engine from the original 8C Competizione, preserving the performance character of the original vehicle. While no changes were made to the drivetrain, the new carbon-fiber bodywork and aerodynamic revisions underscore its conceptual and visual evolution. Only one example of the Alfa Romeo 8C DoppiaCoda Zagato was produced, with no plans for further production. The car reflects over a century of collaboration between Alfa Romeo and Zagato and is intended as both a design study and a collectible artifact, emphasizing timeless aesthetics, technical refinement, and the ongoing cultural relevance of coachbuilt automobiles.
