Daihatsu Cuore

The Daihatsu Cuore 7th generation designed by Italdesign.

Vehicle Overview

The Daihatsu Cuore, whose name fittingly means “heart” in Italian, has long been a symbol of clever packaging, reliability, and everyday charm in the world of city cars. By the time the seventh generation arrived in 2007, the Cuore had evolved into one of the most beloved and enduring super-utility vehicles in its class—especially in export markets where the Cuore badge had remained a staple since the model’s debut in 1980. Unveiled in December 2006 and launched across European markets in September 2007, the seventh-generation Cuore designed by Italdesign, featured a major visual and functional update, with design work led by Fabrizio Giugiaro of Italdesign. While compact city cars often lean toward minimalism, Giugiaro brought a touch of sophistication and modernity to this essential model. The exterior featured smoother, more dynamic lines, larger headlights, and refined proportions, making the Cuore look more grown-up while maintaining its playful character. For the European version, external dimensions were subtly increased to better suit local expectations for space and safety. The new Cuore measured 3,460 mm in length and 1,530 mm in height, while maintaining its narrow 1,475 mm width, allowing it to remain agile in tight urban spaces. It was offered exclusively in a practical 5-door configuration, emphasizing functionality for everyday urban commuting and small families. In its native Japanese market, the car was marketed as the Daihatsu Mira, remaining compliant with strict kei car regulations—its length capped at 3,395 mm. The Japanese version also offered a 3-door Van trim, catering to small businesses and light commercial use. Despite its size, the Cuore delivered a comfortable, efficient ride powered by small-displacement combustion engines, typically under 1.0 liter. Fuel economy, low running costs, and ease of parking made it a perennial favorite across city centers. The 2007 Daihatsu Cuore proved that thoughtful design and practical engineering could coexist beautifully—even in the smallest packages. Thanks to Giugiaro’s touch, it was a city car with heart and style.
