The De Tomaso Pantera 90 Si marked the final chapter in the Pantera’s long and storied history, debuting in 1990 with a bold redesign by the legendary Marcello Gandini, famed for his work on the Lamborghini Miura and Countach. This ultimate iteration of the Pantera was radically updated in nearly every respect, showcasing the evolution of the model from raw muscle car to a refined, modern exotic. For the 90 Si, the classic 351 cubic inch Ford Cleveland V8 was replaced with a smaller, more efficient 302 cubic inch (5.0-liter) Ford V8, now featuring electronic fuel injection—ushering the Pantera into a more modern era of performance and drivability. The new engine was smoother and cleaner, while still offering strong power and the visceral driving experience that had defined the Pantera lineage. Gandini’s influence was unmistakable in the 90 Si’s angular, aggressive styling. The body was heavily revised, with sharp lines, wide wheel arches, integrated bumpers, and a distinctive wedge profile that reflected contemporary supercar trends of the early ’90s. Only around 41 examples of the Pantera 90 Si were ever produced, making it an ultra-rare collector’s item. Its design and engineering signaled De Tomaso’s ambitions to compete with Europe’s best, while honoring the Pantera’s roots with a mix of Italian styling and American power.
