Stutz Victoria

Stutz Victoria (1982–1986) – Limited-Production Luxury Sedan with Italian Coachwork.

Vehicle Overview

The Stutz Victoria is a limited-production luxury sedan manufactured by the Stutz Motor Car of America between 1982 and 1986. Developed as a successor to the earlier IV-Porte model, the Victoria retained the mechanical foundations of contemporary General Motors full-size sedans while introducing revised bodywork and interior enhancements intended to elevate the model’s standing within the ultra-luxury segment. The vehicle’s design and construction reflected the neoclassical aesthetic favored by the revived Stutz marque during this period. The Victoria was based on the GM B-platform, specifically utilizing the chassis of the Oldsmobile 88 and, in later examples, the Pontiac Parisienne. The vehicle was powered by a front-mounted, 5.0-liter V8 engine, paired with a three-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive was standard. Powertrain components were unmodified from the donor vehicles, emphasizing reliability and ease of maintenance. Exterior modifications were extensive. The bodywork was lengthened, the wheelbase extended, and the sheet metal significantly reworked. The Victoria featured signature Stutz styling cues, including a prominent vertical grille, freestanding chromed headlamps, and a faux external spare tire housing mounted on the rear deck. The body was fabricated in Italy by Carrozzeria Saturn in Cavallermaggiore, where the transformation from base sedan to Victoria was undertaken. Interior appointments included Connolly leather, burled walnut veneer, gold-plated accents, and additional features such as folding picnic tables for rear passengers. The cabin layout prioritized rear occupant comfort, with several examples reportedly customized for high-profile clients in the Middle East. Production was extremely limited. Most contemporary estimates place total output between eight and twenty units, though precise documentation is unavailable. At least one example was delivered to the Saudi royal family, while others were reportedly acquired by collectors and private individuals in North America. No definitive chassis registry has been published, and serial numbers are inconsistently recorded. The Stutz Victoria represents an effort to sustain neoclassical luxury automobile production during a period of declining demand for such vehicles. As a result of its rarity, distinctive styling, and bespoke assembly, the model has acquired status as a collector’s item, emblematic of late 20th-century American luxury excess in a European-bodied form.
