Abarth 1000 Bialbero Pininfarina Record

Chassis

#E1351

At the dawn of an extremely significant decade for motoring, the sixties, Pininfarina presented a bold and innovative prototype at the Turin Motor Show. In 1960, the Abarth Monoposto made its debut in Piedmont, a sports car designed to break world speed records.

Vehicle Overview

The Abarth 1000 Bialbero Pininfarina Record prototype, made with an aluminum body molded thanks to studies carried out in the wind tunnel of the Turin Polytechnic, was designed to excel and make Abarth stand out from all the other sports brands. Given the car’s great lightness, a particularly powerful engine was not needed. The Abarth Monoposto Pininfarina was in fact powered by a 1.0 liter four-cylinder engine capable of reaching a maximum power of 105 horsepower at 8,000 rpm. The gearbox was a four-speed manual and traction was entrusted solely to the rear wheels. The secret of the Abarth 1000 Record was in fact the aerodynamic studies which, with specially designed tapered shapes, had created a car 4 meters and 56 centimeters long, only one meter and 55 centimeters wide and just 1.2 meters high.

As soon as the Abarth 1000 Bialbero Pininfarina Record was put on the track, it immediately began to break records, conquering eight worldwide. The Monoposto is in fact accredited with the 12-hour speed record, where it reached an average of 203.656 km/h, on the 24 hours where it reached an average of 198.795 km/h, over 48 hours with an average of 190.264 km/h he on the 72 hours where he achieved an average of 186.687 km/h. In addition to these records, the Record car also broke several records on the distance with the 2,000 miles traveled at an average of 201.115 km/h, the 5,000 miles at an average of 192.878 km / h and the 5,000 and 10,000 kilometers traveled respectively with an average of 199,238 km. / h and 191.376 km/h.
