Bristol 401 Berlinetta
Bristol made the transition from aircraft manufacturing after World War II to building cars. Bristol’s combination of aircraft engineering resulted in them building some of the most unusual and highly engineered and aerodynamically refined automobiles in the early postwar world. They are distinctive, effective and highly unusual. This 401 is typical.
Vehicle Overview
To convert its aerodynamic designs into reality Bristol licensed the superleggera construction system from Italian Carrozzeria Touring, giving the 401 lightweight aluminum coachwork. Bristol’s attention to detail is evident in such things as the streamlined pushbutton releases for opening panels among many other ingenious details.
