Vehicle Overview

The Ferrari 250 GT SWB was built at Carrozzeria Scaglietti and designed by Pininfarina, it was shown to the public for the first time at the 1959 Paris motor show and was reminiscent of the Berlinettas of the time. Its development was entrusted to Giotto Bizzarrini, Carlo Chiti and the young Mauro Forghieri, who later completed the development of the 250 GTO. The short wheelbase nickname was added to differentiate this car, which had a wheelbase of 2400mm, from the 250 GT Berlinetta Tour de France with a wheelbase of 2600mm. The car was designed for use in racing, but was also sold to private customers; they could order it with racing features, such as the all-aluminum body (the lightest equipment) and the most powerful engine. In addition to an enhanced powertrain, the lighter body of the racing models also had minor modifications. Its main competitor was the Jaguar E-Type.
