The Ferrari 365 GT4 2+2 It was unveiled at the 1972 Paris Motor Show, and was marketed until 1976, when it was replaced by the 400 series. 521 examples were produced, in addition to three prototypes. Designed by Pininfarina, it was launched to achieve the goal of having a snappy, comfortable and refined 2+2 coupe. Its line was a milestone for Ferrari design, and was later taken up by the 400 and 412 series. However, there was more than enough space for rear passengers to make it comfortable to live in. Many were the hallmarks of the Ferrari 365 GT4 2+2: from the shape of the handles, to the wheels with the five-spoke star-shaped rims, from the luxurious interior to the leather and suede trim. Borrani spoke wheels were available as optional extras, but they were fitted on only a few examples. Other options were power windows and air conditioning. The famous coachbuilder’s contribution did not stop at design alone; he also assembled the body, equipped with the interior as well, in his Turin workshops. Everything then was sent to the Ferrari factories in Maranello for the completion of the car with the assembly of the mechanical parts. Many elements were reminiscent of the 365 GTC4, such as the control panel, retractable front headlights, circular rear lights, five-spoke wheels and the external door-opening device. Other than that, the line conceived by Pininfarina was totally new. A version for the United States of America was not marketed, however, as the increasingly strict overseas laws would have led to too costly an adaptation. The chassis was derived from that of the 365 GTC4, and was 2700 mm long. It was possible to purchase the model with either right-hand drive or left-hand drive, and power steering was standard. The engine was also virtually identical to that installed in the 365 GTC4; it was in fact a 60° front and longitudinal V12, and possessed a displacement of 4390.35 cm³. The bore and stroke were 81 mm and 71 mm, respectively, while the compression ratio was 8.8:1. The exhaust system consisted of four tailpipes. This powerplant delivered 340 hp at 6200 rpm. The Ferrari 365 GT4 2+2 reached a top speed of 245 km/h.
