The Fiat Firepoint, unveiled at the 1994 Turin motor show, emerged as a captivating rendition of the Fiat Punto, introduced the previous year. Tasking carrozzieri affiliated with ANFIA, Fiat sought unique interpretations, resulting in the creation by Italdesign of the Firepoint: a remarkable 2+2 coupé that seamlessly blended performance with distinctive design. A striking feature of the Firepoint lies in its meticulous attention to aerodynamics, drawing clear inspiration from the world of aeronautics. The transparent, dome-shaped roof spanning the car’s body echoes the design found in the cabins of fighter aircraft, adding a touch of high-tech allure to the vehicle. This innovative design choice not only enhances the car’s aesthetic appeal but also underscores its commitment to advanced engineering. In a nod to the classic styling of the 1950s and 1960s, the Firepoint incorporates a backward-raked pillar surrounding the wraparound windscreen. This design element not only pays homage to automotive aesthetics of yesteryears but also infuses a sense of nostalgia into the contemporary coupé. Accessing the Firepoint is a unique experience, borrowing a page from the BMW Nazca M12’s playbook from 1991. The doors open in a traditional manner, but what sets it apart is the gull-wing opening mechanism for the windows, adding a touch of futuristic flair to the vehicle’s entrance. One of the standout features of the Firepoint is its versatility. The side windows and rear window are entirely removable, and thanks to the central rollbar and the connecting structure between the rollbar and windscreen, the Firepoint can transform into a roadster.
