Opel Diplomat B Cabriolet
In 1970 Opel had the plan to attack Mercedes in the large cabriolet segment. They contacted the Osnabrück based specialist Karmann for the transformation of 4 Diplomats sedans into cabriolet, which accepted the order, but had to hand it over to the Italian coachbuilder Fissore due to capacity problems.
Vehicle Overview
The Opel Diplomat Cabriolet: at Carrozzeria Fissore, in Savigliano, Piedmont, the tin roof was removed and numerous reinforcements welded into the Opel Diplomat, but the side windows and frame remained. Karmann manufactured the soft top, GM supplied the electro-hydraulic mechanics. The convertible limousines were completed between May and October 1971. The pure conversion costs amounted to 70,000 DM per car, while a brand new Opel Diplomat B was already available from 19,000 DM. In addition to a white, gold and blue Opel Diplomat B Cabriolet, Fissore also made one in silver. The 2.8 liter in-line six-cylinder of the Diplomat Cabriolet sounds discreetly sporty and with its 165 hp, fed by a modern D-Jetronic, ensures dignified acceleration. The 1.8-ton convertible sedan accelerates with its three-speed automatic at least theoretically to a good 180 km / h. Internally ventilated disc brakes all around and the DeDion rear axle prove that Opel was technically up to date even then.
