The Fiat 125 Station Wagon OSI designed by Sergio Sartorelli.
The Fiat 125 Station Wagon OSI is a rare coachbuilt estate car developed in 1967 by Officine Stampaggi Industriali (OSI), an Italian design and manufacturing firm closely associated with Carrozzeria Ghia. Based on the Fiat 125 saloon, this unique model exemplifies the Italian tradition of combining mass-produced mechanicals with bespoke bodywork to create distinctive vehicles. The design of the 125 Station Wagon was penned by Sergio Sartorelli, renowned for his work on the Volkswagen Karmann Ghia Type 34 and the Fiat 2300 S Coupé. The OSI wagon featured a clean, angular design with a slightly elongated roofline and a squared-off rear section, distinguishing it from the standard Fiat 125 saloon. The vehicle’s proportions were carefully balanced to maintain the dynamic stance of the original sedan while providing increased cargo capacity. Mechanically, the OSI Station Wagon retained the Fiat 125’s 1.6-liter DOHC inline-four engine, delivering approximately 90 horsepower to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission. This setup provided a blend of performance and practicality, aligning with the 125’s reputation as a driver’s family car. The Fiat 125 Station Wagon OSI was unveiled at the 1967 Turin Motor Show. However, due to OSI’s financial difficulties and eventual closure in December 1967, production was extremely limited, and the model did not enter mass production. As a result, surviving examples are exceedingly rare and highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts of Italian automotive history. The 125 Station Wagon OSI stands as a testament to the creativity and craftsmanship of Italian coachbuilders during the 1960s, reflecting a period when collaboration between manufacturers and independent design houses produced some of the most memorable vehicles in automotive history.
