Fiat Punto GT Stradale
The Fiat Punto GT Stradale prototype by Carrozzeria Maggiora.
Vehicle Overview
The Fiat Punto GT Stradale is a one-off concept car unveiled by Italian coachbuilder Maggiora at the 2000 Turin Auto Show. Designed as a road-going version of the rally-spec Fiat Punto S1600, it featured a rare four-wheel-drive system—a significant departure from the standard front-wheel-drive layout of production Puntos. This prototype was based on the second-generation Fiat Punto (Type 188) and was intended to bridge the gap between motorsport engineering and road usability. Maggiora, renowned for its work on performance-oriented and limited-production vehicles, crafted the GT Stradale to showcase the potential of integrating rally technology into a street-legal format. The car’s design closely mirrored the aggressive stance and aerodynamic enhancements of its rally counterpart, including flared wheel arches and a lowered suspension setup. While detailed technical specifications remain scarce, the GT Stradale’s all-wheel-drive system was a notable feature, aiming to provide superior traction and handling characteristics. Despite its promising concept, the Fiat Punto GT Stradale remained a singular prototype and did not proceed to mass production. Its unveiling at the Turin Auto Show marked it as a unique blend of rally performance and road car practicality, reflecting Maggiora’s commitment to innovative automotive design. Today, the GT Stradale stands as a testament to early 2000s automotive experimentation, embodying the era’s enthusiasm for merging competitive rally elements with everyday driving experiences.
