Ford Blue Car

In December 1971, Ghia (part of the De Tomaso Group) was commissioned by Lee Jacocca to study a small compact in order to identify the stylistic trends of an expanding market in the European area.

Vehicle Overview

The Ford Blue Car study was carried out by Ghia with the utmost speed and secrecy, so much so that there are no photographs other than the one on display, taken as a souvenir during the shipment by air. A Fiat 127 was used as the basic platform and the final vehicle codenamed “Blue Car” retains all its mechanical and volumetric dimensions. This Ford Blue Car prototype was perhaps used, by Filippo Sapino and Tom Tjaarda, as a reference in the study of the Ford Fiesta I ° Series. The drawings exhibited here were made by Paolo Martin and are the only existing and original ones. The 1:1 scale drawing was destroyed and no other documentation exists.
