The Lancia Aurelia B20 GT Prototype by Ghia.
The Lancia Aurelia B20 GT prototypes, meticulously crafted by Carrozzeria Ghia, marked the inception of a groundbreaking design. Once Lancia granted approval for the B20’s concept, Ghia embarked on the ambitious task of mass-producing 100 specimens. However, the transition from crafting three prototypes to a large-scale production presented an overwhelming challenge for Ghia’s existing resources. In a strategic move, Giorgio Boano, the visionary behind the design, enlisted the expertise of Vittorino Viotti. Recognizing Viotti’s proficiency in automotive manufacturing, Boano sought his collaboration as a key supplier for the project. Viotti’s factory emerged as a pivotal asset, equipped with the necessary infrastructure to streamline the standardized manufacturing process demanded by the project’s magnitude. The collaboration between Ghia and Viotti not only addressed the logistical hurdles but also ensured that the essence of the Aurelia B20 GT’s design and quality remained intact during the transition to mass production. This partnership played a crucial role in bringing the iconic Lancia Aurelia B20 GT to the forefront of automotive innovation, showcasing the successful fusion of design brilliance and manufacturing prowess.
