Pininfarina 90 anni / 90 years: the official book
The volume describes over 600 models that, from 1930 to today, have dictated the history of the motor car and spread Italian style around…
As his personality acquired maturity, Pinin Farina’s achievements exerted an increasingly decisive influence over the development of motorcar styling. A particularly significant example was this two-seater coupé on Alfa Romeo 2300 B “Pescara” sports chassis where he worked out ideas on aerodynamic styling that were well ahead of their time.
The Alfa Romeo 6C 2300B Pescara Pininfarina: The main innovation was the design of the front with its rounded grill, and the ogival shaped mudguards. The headlights, protected by grids that repeated the shape of the grill, were inserted in the panel linking the mudguards to the bonnet. The roof panel retained a flat windscreen (the glass industry was not yet up to curved windows) but its relation with the volume of the car as a whole, which had been further trimmed down by the absence of running-boards, was impeccable. Presented at the Milan Show of 1936, this markedly Alfa Romeo 6C 2300B Pescara Pininfarina sporty coupé won unconditional acclaim.
