Brilliance BS4 Sedan

The Brilliance BS4 Sedan designed by Italdesign.

Vehicle Overview

The Brilliance Zhonghua Junjie FRV, first revealed as a prototype in 2007, marked a major milestone in Brilliance Auto’s quest to produce a stylish, practical, and fully homegrown compact sedan. Designed by Fabrizio Giugiaro at Italdesign, the FRV combined sporty aesthetics with accessible everyday functionality—a formula aimed squarely at China’s emerging middle class. The production model launched in 2008, under the Chinese name Zhonghua Junjie FRV, and signaled Brilliance’s growing confidence on both domestic and international stages. Developed with a hatchback silhouette that blurred the lines between family-friendly versatility and urban sportiness, the FRV debuted in Europe at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show, making a bold statement about the design ambitions of Chinese manufacturers. With its sloping roofline, strong shoulder lines, and contemporary front fascia, Giugiaro’s styling brought a global sensibility to the project—infusing the car with a modern, youthful energy. In 2009, Brilliance introduced the Junjie FSV—a sedan variant of the FRV—with a longer rear end and a more formal aesthetic, appealing to buyers looking for a more traditional three-box design. These models shared the same platform and mechanicals, powered by efficient combustion engines, and offered with both manual and automatic transmissions. Throughout its lifecycle, the FRV/FSV series underwent several updates. Facelifted versions were released under new names: the Brilliance H320, H330, and C3, each refining the original’s design language while improving features and materials. These evolutions showed Brilliance’s commitment to keeping pace with consumer expectations and rising industry standards. With its clean, Italian-designed lines and flexible configurations, the Zhonghua Junjie FRV/FSV was a pivotal model for Brilliance. It helped shape the brand’s identity in the late 2000s and proved that Chinese manufacturers could produce vehicles with global design appeal, everyday usability, and increasing technical competence—driven, quite literally, by international collaboration.
