Ferrari 208

The Ferrari 208 was produced by the Italian car manufacturer Ferrari from 1980 to 1986 in six versions: GTB carburetors, GTS carburetors, GTB injection, GTS injection, GTB Turbo and GTS Turbo. The GTB Turbo was the first road Ferrari to have supercharging via a turbocharger. Followed, the following year, by the GTS Turbo.

Vehicle Overview

The Ferrari 208 was equipped with the engine derived from that of the Dino 208 GT4. It was designed by Pininfarina to adequately face the oil crisis of the 1970/80 decade, consuming and polluting less than the 3,000 cm³ version; as well as the Italian financial recession of those same years, avoiding the heavy taxation that weighed on engines of over 2 000 cm³. The same strategy was also adopted by Lamborghini and Maserati, with car models specific to that situation. Mechanically and aesthetically identical to the 308 with an aspirated V8 engine of 2926 cm³, it differed in the engine, a 1991 cm³ V8 from the Dino 208 GT4; later this engine was supercharged by means of a KKK turbocharger in 1982 and subsequently IHI with the addition of the intercooler in 1985, giving life to the Ferrari 208 Turbo. This engine was de-weighted compared to its predecessor, that is, the diameter of the cylinders was reduced up to 66.8 mm, bringing it to be long-stroke. These measures made the engine the smallest V8 ever built. It produced 155 HP at 6 800 rpm and, powered by 4 Weber carburettors, it had an engine torque of 170 N m delivered at 4 200 rpm. Compared to the 308 the gear ratios were modified to adapt them to the reduced power. It was available in two body versions, coupé (GTB), and with removable roof in the targa version (GTS). The top speed was relatively low for a sports car of the time: 215 km / h declared. Altogether 160 examples of the Ferrari 208 GTB and 140 examples of the GTS were produced.
