Vehicle Overview

The 1958 Ferrari 250 GT Pininfarina Coupe Speciale, chassis 0853GT, is a bespoke grand tourer with a rich history, originally commissioned for Prince Bertil of Sweden. Finished in Italver blue with a luxurious 3100 leather interior, this left-hand-drive coupe designed by Pininfarina, stood out among the standard 250 GT models due to its exclusive design elements and royal ownership. Delivered to Prince Bertil’s villa “Mirage” in Saint-Maxime, France, the car was used during his vacations on the French Riviera. Unlike many Ferraris of the era, 0853GT remained in the prince’s possession for an extended period, reflecting his appreciation for both performance and elegance. By the early 1960s, it was fitted with Amadori disc brakes, an upgrade over the original drum brakes, and its engine was later installed in another Ferrari, 1301GT (a 250 GT Coupe). In 1966, the car was placed into long-term storage at Charles Pozzi’s Ferrari dealership in Paris, where it remained for decades. It eventually surfaced in the 1990s, when it was acquired by Philippe Lancksweert in Belgium. In 2001, Swedish collector Jonas Liden took ownership before entrusting it to Carrozzeria Auto-Sport in Bastiglia, Italy, for a complete restoration. By the mid-2000s, American collector Lee Herrington became the custodian of 0853GT, and in a significant moment for the car’s authenticity, its original engine was reunited with the chassis. Under Herrington’s ownership, the car became a regular feature at prestigious concours events, including the 2010 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, where it competed in Class M1, and the Cavallino Classic, where it won Platinum in Class 9. Its appearance at the 2012 Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance further cemented its status as a rare and historically significant one-off Ferrari, blending royal provenance, meticulous restoration, and timeless Pininfarina design.
