Ferrari 330 GT 2+2 Navarro

Chassis

#07979

The Ferrari 330 GT Navarro by Sports Cars.

Vehicle Overview

The Ferrari 330 GT 2 + 2 Navarro Special was born at the request of Roberto Navarro, owner of a nightclub, who asked Carrozzeria Sports Cars (Modena) to modify the appearance of his coupé. The original wheels of the car were replaced with alloy wheels. The car maintains the front 4-liter 300 hp Ferrari V12. There is a five-speed manual gearbox and a rigid suspension on the rear axle. The project was curated by Piero Drogo, who lengthened the pavilion and obtained two spectacular side fins, while the rear window does not follow the direction of the two bulkheads and slides delicately up to the flap that gives access to the luggage compartment. The car was originally finished in gold but was later painted red. Currently, the color has been changed back to the original gold. The car is known by several names, such as ‘Drogo Speciale’, ‘Golden Car’ and ‘Navarro Special’. The Navarro Special body has generated some controversy over the years, with some questions as to why Piero Drogo would have undertaken such a project. Drogo died in a 1973 car accident, so his motives are lost in history, but probably the reason was simple: as a small manufacturer, the Drogo-based company experimented with the creation of new bodies for Ferrari models, to stand out. from other coachbuilders. These include the 1962 Ferrari 250 GT “Breadvan”, designed by Bizzarini, but built by Drogo. In August 1971, the Navarro Special was sold through Carrozzeria Sports Cars to Luigi Chinetti Motors, Inc. and imported to the United States. The current owner acquired the car in 2004. The new owner has commissioned its complete restoration in its original form, starting in 2008
