Celebrating the Art of Italian Coachbuilding

Ferrari 812 Superfast Mole

The Ferrari 812 Superfast Mole by Umberto Palermo.

Vehicle Overview

The Ferrari 812 Superfast Mole Costruzione Artigianale is a one-off coachbuilt vehicle unveiled in 2019 by the Turin-based atelier founded and directed by Umberto Palermo. This unique example was created as a reinterpretation of Ferrari’s production 812 Superfast, combining the mechanical specifications of Maranello’s front-engined V12 grand tourer with bespoke exterior design and artisanal execution by Mole Automobiles. The base vehicle employs Ferrari’s F140 GA engine, a 6,496 cc naturally aspirated V12. Positioned front-mid in the chassis, the engine produces 800 CV at 8,500 rpm and 718 Nm of torque at 7,000 rpm. The powertrain is coupled to a seven-speed dual-clutch F1-type transmission and sends power to the rear wheels. The 812 Superfast chassis utilizes an aluminum spaceframe, with fully independent suspension by double wishbones at the front and a multi-link setup at the rear. Carbon-ceramic disc brakes are standard, and the vehicle incorporates rear-wheel steering and electronic driver assistance systems calibrated for high-speed touring performance. For this one-off commission, Mole Costruzione Artigianale executed a comprehensive redesign of the exterior coachwork, preserving the proportions and technical hardpoints of the production model while replacing the body panels with custom-fabricated elements. The styling emphasizes sculptural continuity and surface fluidity, distinguishing itself from the sharper language of the factory car. The front fascia, side air intakes, and rear treatment were modified, and select aerodynamic components were integrated or reinterpreted to align with the atelier’s design ethos. The body is constructed using composite materials and metal surfacing techniques consistent with Mole’s artisanal methods. The vehicle was presented at the 2019 Geneva International Motor Show as a unique example of contemporary coachbuilding. No further units were produced. It stands as a manifestation of Palermo’s approach to modern automotive design, informed by his prior work in industrial styling and independent design practice following his departure from IDEA Institute. No official chassis number or client information has been disclosed. The Ferrari 812 Superfast Mole remains a singular expression of contemporary Italian coachbuilt tradition, executed on a modern high-performance platform.
