In 1946, Carrozzeria Castagna Milano lent its exquisite touch to the Fiat 2800, a post-war behemoth of a sedan that bore the unique stamp of Italian craftsmanship. The origins of the Fiat 2800’s design are said to be rooted in a proposal made by none other than Benito Mussolini, who envisioned a flagship model that would stand in stark contrast to the Mercedes-Benz cars of the era. This grand vision led to the creation of six six-seat-seven-seat torpedo versions by Stabilimenti Farina. These six vehicles quickly became an integral part of the Royal House’s garage at the Quirinale Palace, serving as the representative cars for the Royal family. Post-war, they continued their prestigious role as the chosen vehicles for the first Presidents of the Republic. However, the historical significance of two of these Fiat 2800s transcends their status as mere ceremonial automobiles. During the escape from Rome to Pescara, King Victor Emmanuel III and Pietro Badoglio relied on two of these Fiat 2800s, illustrating their importance in critical historical moments. The robust chassis of the Fiat 2800 became the foundation for representative vehicles built by renowned Italian coachbuilders post-war. Carrozzeria Castagna Milano, not to be left out of this prestigious endeavor, crafted a singular masterpiece on the Fiat 2800 chassis. This particular specimen, a unique creation, stands as a testament to the coachbuilder’s artistry and innovation. Notably, Carrozzeria Castagna adorned this colossal sedan with a front grille reminiscent of the distinguished Lancia models, adding an extra layer of sophistication to the vehicle’s distinctive design.
