The Jaguar XK140 Zagato is a rare and stunning example of Anglo-Italian automotive design, a product of the collaboration between British car manufacturer Jaguar and the renowned Italian coachbuilder Zagato. In 1956, Italian Jaguar dealer Guido Modiano reached out to Zagato Milano with a special request: to rebody one of his Jaguar XK140s. The result was a beautifully redesigned car that combined the elegant performance of the Jaguar with the distinctive flair of Zagato’s design philosophy. Zagato’s work on the XK140 was so impressive that the car was showcased at the 1957 Paris Auto Salon, drawing significant attention and acclaim. The reworked XK140 featured the sleek, aerodynamic lines for which Zagato was famous, with a unique blend of graceful curves and aggressive styling. This bespoke creation was not only a visual masterpiece but also highlighted the potential of combining British engineering with Italian craftsmanship. Following the success of the XK140 Zagato, a brochure was created for potential Zagato XK150 conversions, leading to the completion of one additional car that was showcased at the 1958 Geneva Auto Show. Unfortunately, the project was short-lived, as the second car marked the end of the venture. With only two known examples ever built, the Jaguar XK140 Zagato and its successor, the XK150, remain rare treasures. Sadly, over time, both cars have largely vanished, with one believed to have been lost forever. The Jaguar XK140 Zagato earned a significant accolade in 1957, taking second place at the prestigious Concorso d’Eleganza di Cortina d’Ampezzo. This recognition further solidified its place in automotive history as a fusion of performance, luxury, and design. Though the project was brief, the Jaguar XK140 Zagato remains a testament to the artistry of Zagato and the timeless appeal of Jaguar’s engineering.
