The new Zagato Mostro Barchetta powered by Maserati
The Zagato Mostro Barchetta makes its debut at the Concorso d’eleganza di villa d’Este
The Zagato Mostro Barchetta built in only 5 speciments, all already sold, is powered by a Maserati engine. It was designed by Norihiko Harada.
The Zagato Mostro Barchetta represents the latest result of Zagato and Maserati’s long collaboration since 1931. Over the decades, the two companies have produced dozens of prestigious models such as the Maserati A6 1500 GT Panoramica and the 450S Coupé Zagato. The Barchetta unveiled at the 2022 Concorso d’Eleganza di Villa d’Este is based on the latter, which was nicknamed “The Monster” by racing driver Stirling Moss. The car was commissioned by Moss himself to compete in the 1957 24 Hours of Le Mans, and like the model at the time, the modern Maserati is distinguished by its elegant form and brutal power. Zagato’s new creation was designed by Norihiko Harada and is generally inspired by the “barchetta” of the 1950s, with two seats, compact dimensions and a wraparound windshield. The Zagato Mostro Barchetta however, features also a lot of modern technology with a carbon-fiber chassis (built by Automobiles Gillet) and 19-inch alloy wheels with one-piece fasteners on 255/40 R19 front tires and 295/35 R19 rear tires. As for its sister Coupé, only 5 speciments will be created.
