Vehicle Overview
The Zagato Mostro Barchetta represents the latest chapter in the enduring partnership between Zagato and Maserati, which began in 1931. This collaboration has produced numerous prestigious models, including the Maserati A6 1500 GT Panoramica and the 450S Coupé Zagato. Unveiled at the 2022 Concorso d’Eleganza di Villa d’Este, the Barchetta pays homage to the latter, famously nicknamed “The Monster” by racing driver Stirling Moss. Commissioned by Moss himself for the 1957 24 Hours of Le Mans, the original “Monster” was known for its elegant form and brutal power—a legacy that the modern Zagato Mostro Barchetta aims to continue. Designed by Norihiko Harada, the new Zagato creation draws inspiration from the “barchetta” style of the 1950s, featuring compact dimensions, two seats, and a wraparound windshield. Despite its retro aesthetics, the Mostro Barchetta incorporates a wealth of modern technology. The car boasts a carbon-fiber chassis built by Automobiles Gillet, ensuring a lightweight yet robust structure. It rides on 19-inch alloy wheels with one-piece fasteners, fitted with 255/40 R19 front tires and 295/35 R19 rear tires, providing both a striking appearance and excellent performance. In keeping with its high-performance heritage, the Zagato Mostro Barchetta is designed to deliver impressive power and agility. The combination of cutting-edge materials and engineering with a design ethos rooted in classic sports car aesthetics results in a vehicle that is both a tribute to the past and a statement of modern automotive excellence. Much like its sister model, the Mostro Coupé, the Zagato Mostro Barchetta will be produced in a highly limited run of just five specimens. This exclusivity ensures that each car is not only a masterpiece of design and engineering but also a rare collector’s item.
