Zagato Mostro

Chassis

#YA9VZ3S00F0169036

The Zagato Mostro, of which five units are built, was born in 2015 to celebrate the Maserati centenary and to honour one of the most iconic race cars in the history of the Brand: the Maserati 450 S Coupé Zagato Monster, designed in 1957 with Frank Costin, specialist in aerodynamics, and bodied according to Stirling Moss’s wishes. The Mostro, a collectible car based on pure racing mechanics, can be homologated for road use. It reflects the philosophy upon which the success of the GTs is based: light body with functional trim. The chassis is a carbon monocoque coupled to a tubular steel structure, while the shell is shaped from carbon fibre.

Vehicle Overview

The Zagato Mostro is a GT coupé car from the Italian designer house Zagato produced in only five speciments in 2015. Powered by a V8 Maserati engine, it is inspired by the one off Maserati 450S Mostro Zagato from 1957. It was unveiled at the 2015 Villa d’Este Concorso d’Eleganza, in tribute to the 100 years of the Maserati brand. The chassis of the car was entirely produced by the Belgian manufacturer Automobiles Gillet. The retrostyle body, created by the Japanese designer Norihiko Harada (chief designer at Zagato), is made of carbon fiber, with long hood, low roof, butterfly doors and digital dashboard, for a reduced total weight of 1,000 kg. The “monster” is powered by a 4.2L V8 Maserati engine developing 420 horsepower, fitted with a semi-automatic six-speed gearbox from the Maserati GranTurismo. With the exception of the customizable ECU, the Monster has no electronic equipment. In fact, the car lacks systems such as electronic stability control, anti-lock braking system and traction control, making it unapproved for road use.
