The Lancia Astura 4 Door Cabriolet Pininfarina.
Vehicle Overview
The Lancia Astura 4 Door Cabriolet by Pininfarina epitomizes sophistication, style, and luxury, standing as a pinnacle of automotive elegance during the Art Deco era. Designed by Pinin Farina, it exuded flowing lines, a touch of flamboyance, and an unmistakable aura of fashion that made it a preferred choice among Italian dignitaries, including Benito Mussolini, who used an Astura coupe as his official government vehicle. Produced from 1931 to 1939 across four distinct series, the Astura remains celebrated as one of the most aesthetically pleasing cars of its time, with only 426 units crafted in its fourth and final series, all featuring long-wheelbase configurations. The specific Lancia Astura 4 Door Cabriolet by Pininfarina in question boasts a rich and intriguing history. Initially purchased in 1938, it was shipped to London for use by the Italian ambassador, reflecting its prestigious status and international presence. Later, the car found its way to Britain, where it was acquired by Peter McAdam, who eventually relocated to Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia, in the late 1960s, bringing the Astura with him. Sadly, McAdam passed away shortly after settling in Australia, and ownership of the car passed to his nephew. In 1971, the Astura was sold to a Melbourne resident and devoted Lancia enthusiast, who, dissatisfied with the restoration work conducted in England, embarked on a meticulous ground-up restoration project starting in 1972. Over the course of three decades, the restoration painstakingly brought the Lancia Astura back to its original splendor, ensuring every detail was meticulously preserved and enhanced. This journey of restoration not only revived the Astura’s timeless beauty but also honored its heritage, preserving a piece of automotive history that continues to captivate enthusiasts and collectors alike. The Lancia Astura 4 Door Cabriolet by Pininfarina stands as a testament to enduring craftsmanship, meticulous restoration, and a legacy of elegance that transcends generations.
