The Lancia Beta Spider, born in 1974 from a Pininfarina study, could actually be considered a “Targa”, that is a semi-open with removable rigid roof, rear folding top and a sturdy central roll bar with structural function, according to the fashion of the time, also dictated by the need for greater safety and structural rigidity. The Beta Spider was not built directly by Lancia; the normal bodies of the Beta Coupé were in fact sent to Zagato in Terrazzano di Rho, which cut, modify and set up them, before returning to the Lancia plant in Chivasso where the assembly of the mechanical parts (the same as the standard Coupé) was carried out. . The only trace of this pilgrimage is the letter “Z” of Zagato which is found on the bottom of the luggage compartment mat. This car, due to the high cost, did not have the same consensus as the other Beta sports cars, and was removed from the list in 1982, despite having some success in the US market.
