Maserati 3500 GT Allemano

The Maserati 3500 GT Allemano prototype designed by Michelotti.

Vehicle Overview

Ten years following the inception of Maserati’s inaugural road vehicle, the 3500 GT emerged as the pivotal model marking the brand’s shift from a focus on racing cars to becoming a prominent road car manufacturer. From 1957 to 1964, a total of 2,226 3500 GT coupés and convertibles were meticulously crafted, solidifying Maserati’s reputation for exquisite automotive craftsmanship. At the Geneva Motor Show on March 20, 1957, two prototypes stood side by side, showcasing the culmination of Maserati’s dedication to engineering and design excellence. Among these prototypes, one crafted by Touring and the other by Allemano were featured, each presenting a distinct interpretation of Maserati’s vision. Ultimately, Touring’s design, conceived by Federico Formenti, garnered favor in Maserati’s design competition, requiring only minimal alterations before heading into production. Meanwhile, the Allemano rendition, envisioned by Giovanni Michelotti, diverged with a more elaborate front end, contrasting the cleaner lines of Touring’s creation. The Maserati 3500 GT Allemano initially debuted with a striking two-tone paint scheme, captivating onlookers with its aesthetic allure. However, the car was later repainted in a resplendent Silver-White hue, further enhancing its timeless elegance. This evolution epitomizes the evolution of Maserati’s design language, marrying innovation with sophistication to create an automotive icon that continues to captivate enthusiasts and collectors alike. The Maserati 3500 GT remains a testament to the brand’s enduring legacy, embodying the pinnacle of Italian automotive excellence.
