Vehicle Overview

The Saab 9-X concept car, designed by Michael Mauer and Anthony Lo, combines the features of a coupe, a roadster, a wagon and a pickup truck. The design of the car was conceived by ten technicians belonging to the Saab Advanced Styling Centre supervised by Bertone. The body of the car has no edges and since the door handles are absent, they open only by remote control. The lighting system consists of eight headlights with fiber-optic technology. In the rear section, the bright headlights, with neon technology, and license plate are inserted behind a large smoked glass. The glass roof can be opened in several positions and can also be removed and stored in the trunk. The rear seats can be folded down and by lowering the tailgate, like a flap, the 9X takes on a configuration suitable for transporting sports equipment. The interior (configured in 2+2 mode) was made by employing black-and-white leather with aluminum inserts. All gauges are digital, and a soft blue light radiates from some slots to illuminate the car’s interior; air conditioning is also distributed from the same slots. The center tunnel features a multifunction selector switch with which on-board electronics can be controlled. The Saab 9-X has all-wheel drive and a 300-hp, 410 Nm turbocharged 3.0 V6 mated to a six-speed sequential transmission; it rides on 19′ tires.
