Vehicle Overview
The Volvo PV 444 Elizabeth II is a remarkable survivor in automotive history. Pictured is the proud owner, Thamsten from Norrbotten, leaning against his unique car, Elisabeth II, which represents Wennbergs’ second attempt at automobile manufacturing. This distinctive vehicle, reminiscent of the iconic Amazon (P 120), is built on the chassis of the PV 444. The Volvo PV444 Elizabeth II was crafted by Vignale, following a design by Giovanni Michelotti. One of the main improvements over its predecessor, Elisabeth I, was the increased spacing in the backseat, addressing a key concern for Volvo. Despite this enhancement, Volvo deemed the manufacturing costs too high, leading to a lack of interest in the improved version. Additionally, Volvo’s focus shifted to their new project, the Volvo P 1900, further contributing to their disinterest in the PV444 Elizabeth II.
