Borgward Hansa 1800

By the beginning of the 1950’s, Bertone had already established his reputation as a designer, with cars which were successful not only in Europe but also across the pond. The idea of designing a German car came about at the same time as the beginning of the fruitful Bertone-MG partnership.

Vehicle Overview

For the Borgward designs Bertone took inspiration from his work with the English manufacturer and created a model featuring a long bonnet and ponton wings. The interiors were designed to give more living space than other similar models of the day, with a modern feel and reflecting the most advanced trends of the Italian bodywork school. The minimal lines were a hit with the German manufacturer, which two years later produced the Isabella, a great success with a production run of 202,839.
