The Lincoln Mark I Ghia: In 1970, Ford obtained complete control of Carrozzeria Ghia of Turin, making it the logical choice for assistance in developing a luxurious sedan with a European flair for the American market. Ghia’s proposal was based on the Granada Mark I, which was manufactured by Ford of Europe in Cologne, Germany and Dagenham, England. Despite sharing only its name with the American Ford Granada, the European Granada was built on a completely different platform and offered a range of V4, L4, and V6 engines. The Lincoln Mark I Ghia closely followed the same design approach used by Lee Iacocca and his team to create the highly successful Lincoln Continental Mark III, incorporating an elegant, neo-classical grille at the front. In terms of other features, the Mark I was not significantly different from its European Granada predecessor, sharing the doors, greenhouse, and other elements. It is worth noting that, at least initially, the Mark I was not badged as a Continental but rather as a Lincoln.
