Apollo Intensa Emozione

The Apollo Intensa Emozione is a mid-engine sports car manufactured by Manifattura Automobili Torino for German automobile manufacturer Apollo Automobil GmbH, designed by their Chief Designer, Joe Wong. This is the first vehicle made by Apollo since the Gumpert Apollo that went into production 14 years before. The car is sometimes referred to as the IE, which stands for Intensa Emozione. The name itself means ‘intense emotion’ in Italian.

Vehicle Overview

The Apollo Intensa Emozione, commonly referred to by its acronym IE, is a high-performance mid-engine sports car that emerged from the collaboration between German automaker Apollo Automobil and Manifattura Automobili Torino. This cutting-edge vehicle made its debut in 2017, drawing inspiration from the Arrow concept car unveiled the previous year. The IE represents a significant milestone for Apollo as it marks their return to the automotive scene after a 14-year hiatus following the production of the Gumpert Apollo. The first glimpse of the Apollo Intensa Emozione was presented through a video preview released on October 17, 2017. Subsequently, the car was officially unveiled on October 24, 2017. The initial impression conveyed by this extraordinary vehicle was that it is not merely an automobile but a manifestation of intense emotion, as suggested by its name. Pricing for the Apollo Intensa Emozione reflects its exclusivity and high-performance pedigree. With a stated selling price of $2.67 million in the U.S. and €2.3 million in Europe, this sports car is positioned in the upper echelons of the automotive market. Only ten examples were planned for production, and all have already been sold, underscoring the rarity and desirability of this exceptional vehicle. In June 2018, it was revealed that Apollo had forged a partnership with HWA AG, a company specializing in the production of racing vehicles and components that originated from Mercedes-AMG. This collaboration aimed to leverage HWA AG’s expertise to complete the final development phase of the Apollo Intensa Emozione, ensuring that it lives up to the expectations of discerning enthusiasts and collectors. The design philosophy behind the Apollo Intensa Emozione reflects a fusion of inspiration from nature, particularly insects and marine animals. Renowned designer Joe Wong crafted the exterior with a focus on airflow, resulting in a visually striking and aerodynamically efficient design. Inside the car, the driver is ensconced in a carbon-fiber-textured shell seat, equipped with a quick-release steering wheel and race-car-style details. The roof features a touch display for managing ventilation, heating, windshield defrosting, and interior lighting, contributing to a cockpit designed for both performance and luxury. Under the hood, the Apollo Intensa Emozione boasts a formidable mid-mounted 6.3-liter naturally aspirated V12 engine. Developed by Autotecnica Motori in Cremona and fine-tuned by HWA AG, this powerhouse is capable of reaching an impressive 9000 rpm. The engine delivers 780 horsepower at 8500 rpm and 760 Nm of torque at 6000 rpm. Power is transferred to the rear wheels through a Hewland 6-speed sequential manual transmission, providing precise control through paddle shifters on the steering wheel. The construction of the Apollo Intensa Emozione is a testament to engineering excellence. The car is predominantly crafted from carbon fiber, with additional components made from high-strength steel, aluminum, and titanium. The carbon fiber monocoque chassis, manufactured by Capricorn Group, is exceptionally rigid, meeting the requirements of the LMP2 category without the need for an internal roll cage. The exposed engine compartment optimizes air intake efficiency for maximum performance. The chassis, weighing a mere 105 kg, features three-way adjustable Bilstein shock absorbers, allowing drivers to fine-tune the car’s handling characteristics for comfort, sport, or auto modes. Braking is entrusted to a Brembo composite system with 380 x 34 mm discs and 6-piston calipers at the front, complemented by 4-piston calipers at the rear. Michelin Sport Cup 2 high-performance tires provide exceptional grip, while Pankl Racing Systems supplies the differential. The Apollo Intensa Emozione’s performance metrics are nothing short of breathtaking. Accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in a mere 2.7 seconds, this sports car achieves a top speed of 350 km/h. The aerodynamics of the IE are finely tuned, generating a maximum load of 1350 kg at 350 km/h, surpassing the car’s own weight of 1250 kg. In conclusion, the Apollo Intensa Emozione stands as a testament to the relentless pursuit of automotive perfection. Its breathtaking design, coupled with state-of-the-art engineering and performance capabilities, positions it as a coveted masterpiece in the realm of high-performance sports cars. With only ten examples in existence, each commanding a hefty price tag, the Apollo IE is a rare and exclusive gem for those fortunate enough to experience the intense emotion it promises on the open road.
