Moving up the hierarchy, there’s a version equipped with a monstrous V16 engine that delivers a mind-boggling 3,006 horsepower and 2,407 lb⋅ft of torque. For those seeking an even more extreme experience, a track-only variant is available, featuring a quad-turbo V16 engine that cranks out a staggering 5,007 horsepower and 3,757 lb⋅ft of torque. These power figures are undeniably on the cutting edge of automotive engineering. The journey of the Devel Sixteen began in 2008, and it has been fraught with challenges. One notable obstacle was the development of tires capable of handling the car’s incredible speed. In 2013, the target top speed was announced as 560 km/h, a feat that presented substantial challenges for tire technology. Delays ensued, with the lead development engineer awaiting a functional prototype from Manifattura Automobili Torino. Despite the setbacks, a V8-powered Sixteen was produced in June 2022, although its performance remains unconfirmed. The 16-cylinder engine, composed of two V8 engines, is a marvel in itself, boasting a displacement of 7.2 liters, four turbochargers with an 81 mm diameter, and the expertise of the US company Steve Morris Engines. The power output ranges from 2,237 kW (3,000 hp) to a staggering 3,680 kW (5,007 hp) for the pure racing version, depending on the engine configuration and boost pressure. The Devel Sixteen’s exterior design is striking, featuring a carbon fiber body with a wheelbase of 3.46 meters, providing a sleek and aerodynamic profile. Resembling the McDonnell Douglas F-15, the hypercar sports two large exhaust pipes at both the front and rear, contributing to its distinct appearance. With a drag coefficient of 0.3, the Sixteen is optimized for minimal air resistance. While the Sixteen shares some components with the Corvette C8, it stands as a unique and audacious creation, pushing the boundaries of what is thought possible in the world of hypercars. The announced price tag of $1.7 million reflects the exclusivity and performance capabilities of this remarkable machine. It was tested at the Pininfarina Wind Tunnels and also seen in the Turin streets.
