Vehicle Overview

The Chrysler K300 was a luxurious, custom-built car commissioned by Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, the Shah of Iran, for his second wife, Queen Soraya. Crafted by the renowned Italian design house Carrozzeria Ghia in Turin, the K300 epitomized opulence and innovation in automotive design during the 1950s. It was a true one-of-a-kind vehicle, tailored to meet the Shah’s extravagant taste and desire for sophistication. The Chrysler K300 featured several state-of-the-art amenities that were rare, if not unheard of, at the time. These included a record player ingeniously fitted within the glove box, allowing Queen Soraya to enjoy music on the move, and a refrigerated compartment situated behind the seats for chilled beverages. Additionally, the vehicle boasted a radio phone—an advanced feature for its era—and an air conditioning system, a luxury uncommon in most automobiles of the time. The interior of the car was adorned with gold-plated instruments, emphasizing its bespoke and regal character. In addition to its luxurious features, the K300 was engineered for high performance. At the Shah’s request, the vehicle was designed to house a larger and more powerful 392-cubic-inch HEMI V8 engine equipped with dual four-barrel carburetors. However, due to the complexity of the modifications, the car was delivered to Iran with the engine unassembled. The responsibility for completing the vehicle fell to Reza Dardashti, the head mechanic of the Royal Garage in Iran, who meticulously assembled and fine-tuned the engine to the Shah’s exacting standards. The Chrysler K300 was more than just a car; it was a symbol of luxury, modernity, and the lavish lifestyle of the Iranian royal family. Its combination of Italian craftsmanship, American engineering, and cutting-edge features made it a true masterpiece, reflecting the Shah’s vision of blending global influences into a singular, extraordinary creation.
