Fiat – 1400 Castagna

Castagna’s company history began in 1849 when Carlo Castagna bought the Ferrari coachbuilding business. Carrozzeria Castagna built the first coach automobile with a combustion engine (Benz quadricycle). Later the company worked with larger car manufacturers, including: Isotta Fraschini, Duesenberg, Alfa Romeo, Lancia, Mercedes-Benz and of course Fiat.

Vehicle Overview

In 1950, Castagna unveiled at the Turin Motor Show, this large sedan based on the Fiat 1400 chassis. It features lines which are far from the italian style canon: the rear roof portion is way too ponderous to look acceptable to eyes, and the tail, conforming to certain then-current fads, was too long. But at least the rest of the car looked innocuous enough to look modern and luxurious.
