An avant-garde design: The Fiat 1500 by Bertone ft. Silvia Nicolis Ep6
Designed by Mario Revelli di Beaumont, Silvia Nicolis presents this Fiat one-off built by Bertone. An avant-garde car with a design already projected into the future.
The 1500 was presented at the Milan Motor Show in 1935. The engine was conceptually a “Balilla” with two extra cylinders to give it a total power of almost 1500 cc. Such scarce power on a 6-cylinder engine was almost a record.
The Bertone coachbuilder was the first to make personal touches to the new Fiat model and, as far back as 1936, it introduced some saloons that further enhanced the aerodynamic lines of the custom-built vehicle. The body was designed by Mario Revelli di Beaumont towards the end of the second world war and built by Bertone in 1945 on a 1941 chassis. The design proves how much research went into new styles and aerodynamics. The sharper inclination of the windscreen, the front bumpers connected to the back ones, almost like a preview of the future “pontoon” bodyworks, i.e. with no continuity solution from front to back, the lack of a footboard, the receding lines of the tail. The radiator cowling is characteristic, with its central shield and two side whiskers that look like the typical front of the Alfa Romeo, in fact, this body was used also on a 6C 2500 chassis.
This beautiful one off belongs to the Museo Nicolis. Watch our video interview with Silvia Nicolis here.
