The Fiat 600 Smart by Bertone.
Bertone used the term “Smart” to identify its elaborata versions, including but not limited to the Fiat 600. Three distinct versions were available. The top trim level was particularly notable for its small rear fins with winged tail lights, enhancing the car’s aerodynamic and stylish appearance. The Fiat 600 Smart also featured a two-tone paint job that extended to the roof, adding to its visual appeal and distinctiveness. Interestingly, Bertone chose not to apply a fake grille to its Smart versions. Instead, they opted for elegant chrome decorations that accentuated the car’s refined look. Additionally, a center fog light was included, providing both functional benefits and a unique aesthetic element. This approach highlighted Bertone’s commitment to combining functionality with sophisticated design, setting their elaborata versions apart from other customized models of the Fiat 600.
The Fiat 600 was undoubtedly the car that accompanied Italy through the economic boom. When it was presented it was very popular thanks to its modern lines, the brilliant engine and a cockpit large enough to fit the whole family. The demand for the 600 was so high that Fiat was unable to meet the waiting times, so that many relied on the coachbuilders in order to get its small family car sooner, even at the cost of a higher price.
