Celebrating the Art of Italian Coachbuilding

I.DE.A ERA

The I.DE.A ERA concept car.

Vehicle Overview

The I.DE.A ERA is a striking roadster concept created by Turin-based IDEA Institute to commemorate its 30th anniversary. First revealed on May 15, 2008, at the company’s headquarters, ERA symbolizes a return to the roots of Italian design—a celebration of instinctive drawing, elegant form, and timeless automotive beauty. Developed by a new generation of designers working alongside seasoned craftsmen, ERA blends heritage with forward-thinking vision. It reinterprets the classic values of Italian car styling, favoring clarity, emotion, and the sheer joy of form over unnecessary complexity. This design philosophy culminated in ERA’s official public debut at the Automotive News Europe Congress in Turin on May 19–20, 2008, coinciding with the city’s designation as the World Design Capital and the opening of IDEA Institute’s new Brazilian branch. ERA’s sculpted lines are purposeful, smooth, and inherently Italian, evoking the purity of iconic sports cars while remaining modern in expression. With visible tubular structures and minimalistic cockpit design, the interior underscores lightness, authenticity, and the raw essence of driving. Technically, ERA is designed around an existing M2-segment monocoque chassis, optimized for performance and versatility. The vehicle measures 4,300 mm in length, 1,840 mm in width, and just 920 mm in height, with a 2,560 mm wheelbase, resulting in a low, aggressive stance. It supports either a transverse-mounted front engine for a front-wheel drive setup or a longitudinal engine for a rear-wheel drive layout, with output potential reaching up to 300 horsepower. Gearbox options include a 5- or 6-speed manual or sequential transmission. The suspension features independent in-wheel double triangle at the front and double square at the rear, combined with power-assisted ventilated disc brakes and 19-inch alloy wheels fitted with 245/40 R19 tires. ERA’s kerb weight ranges between 1,500 and 2,000 kg, and it accommodates two passengers. With its central fuel tank and a design rooted in passion and precision, ERA stands as a symbol of pure driving emotion.
