The Maserati 250S by Fantuzzi.
The Maserati 250S by Fantuzzi emerged in 1957 as a bold departure from its predecessor, sporting a radically redesigned body. With only four units manufactured, its primary aim was to retain the nimbleness of the two-liter sports car while amping up power to challenge competitors with larger displacements. Its first public appearance occurred during the trials for the 1000 km of Buenos Aires, showcasing promising performances. However, it was deemed not yet ready for competitive racing due to its perceived immaturity. The stiff competition posed by the Maserati 300S internally, coupled with the official Maserati team’s withdrawal from racing at the season’s end, signaled the beginning of the car’s decline. Nevertheless, a few engines were produced for supplying client scuderias, intended for updating existing 200 SI models. Notably, between 1958 and 1959, the 250S achieved commendable success in national SCCA races across North America. Under the hood lay a potent four-cylinder, in-line engine boasting a displacement of 2489 cm³. Fantuzzi, renowned for their craftsmanship, sculpted the bodywork from aluminum, ensuring both performance and aesthetic appeal. Despite its limited production and short-lived racing career, the Maserati 250S by Carrozzeria Fantuzzi left an indelible mark on the motorsport scene of its era.
