The Maserati A6GCS Siluro Corsa by Fantuzzi.
The Maserati A6GCS Siluro Corsa by Fantuzzi is a significant piece of automotive history, as it represents Maserati’s first all-new sports-racing car following World War II. The A6GCS quickly earned a reputation for its performance on both the racetrack and the open road, finding success with factory teams and privateers alike. One of its primary competitors was Ferrari’s 166 model, which emerged from the Modenese brand in direct rivalry to Maserati’s offerings. Chassis ‘2006’ of the A6GCS has an interesting and storied past. Acquired new by Sicilian Baron Nicola Musumeci in May 1948, the car was involved in several notable races throughout the years. Under Musumeci’s ownership, the A6GCS achieved a 4th place finish in the 1949 Giro di Sicilia, followed by another 4th place finish in the Gran Premio di Napoli in 1950, which was run to Formula 2 rules. Additionally, it finished 5th in the 1950 edition of the Giro di Sicilia. These accomplishments highlighted the car’s competitive nature and Musumeci’s skill behind the wheel. The Baron kept ‘2006’ until 1972, after which it was acquired by renowned collector Giulio Dubbini from Padova, where it remained for many years in his esteemed collection. Over the years, the car has been well preserved, with only a few modifications. In the early 1970s, Fantuzzi repainted the A6GCS and replaced some of the bodywork, but apart from these updates, the car remains largely as it was when it was purchased by Musumeci in 1948. This careful preservation of its original form makes the Maserati A6GCS Siluro Corsa a remarkable example of post-war Italian racing engineering, and a rare, valuable piece for both collectors and Maserati enthusiasts alike.
