The car was built on the chassis of the Mercedes-Benz 170V, which was a popular compact car in Germany at the time.

The Mercedes-Benz 170V Spider Frua was based on the 170V which was introduced in 1936 and was produced in limited numbers until 1939. The car was powered by a 1.7-liter four-cylinder engine that produced 38 horsepower. This may not seem like much power by today’s standards, but it was enough to give the car a top speed of around 80 miles per hour. The design of the Mercedes-Benz 170V Spider Frua by Pietro Frua is elegant and timeless, with smooth lines and a streamlined shape that was ahead of its time. The car features a long hood, a short rear deck, and a low, wide stance which features some design elements already seen on other Fura creations of that time like the Lancia Aprilia Cabriolet and the Fiat 1100C Spider. The interior is also stylish, with leather seats and a simple, functional dashboard. Only 1 speciment was built and its faith is unknown.
