Michelotti Lem
LEM is the acronym for “Mobile Electronic Laboratory”, an electric city car born between 1973 and 1974 from the collaboration between Giovanni Michelotti and engineer Gianni Rogliatti, who designed and built the frame and mechanics with his own hands.
Vehicle Overview
Michelotti took care of the aluminum bodywork, very light and very versatile. The wheels were arranged in a diamond shape, with the central rear traction one and the two lateral ones of stability. The doors open in a gull-wing shape but hinged on the sides of the windshield they offered a practical and space-saving solution. Only the windshield was glass: Plexiglas windows and rear window to further reduce weight. The engine was powered by 48 Volt batteries. It was exhibited at the Turin Motor Show in 1974, today it is kept at the National Automobile Museum in Turin donated by Rogliatti’s wife after her death in 2012.
