Renault Supercinq
The The Renault Supercinq designed by Marcello Gandini.
Vehicle Overview
The Renault Supercinq: In the spring of 1978, the leaders of Renault, believing that their little best seller, the Renault 5, was beginning to show signs of age in its lines, gave way to Project 140, which was to give rise to the heir of the same R5: the Renault Supercinq. Several prototypes were made with rather original aesthetic solutions, but definitely not very convincing in general. After yet another rejected proposal and a few years passed since the start of the project, the well-known designer Marcello Gandini was consulted, already famous at the beginning of the seventies for having signed the breathtaking line of a car like the Lamborghini Countach. Gandini replied that for a very successful car like the R5 it was necessary not to deviate much from its original line, in order not to risk too much. The Régie accepted the advice and in September 1984 the new car was ready for presentation, which took place the following month at the Paris Motor Show and subsequently at the Elysée in front of the President of the Republic François Mitterrand.
