Senova Offspace

The Senova Offspace designed by Granstudio.

Vehicle Overview

The Senova OffSpace was a concept vehicle developed by BAIC Motor Corporation and presented at the 2016 Beijing International Automotive Exhibition. Conceived as an exploration of future design and spatial solutions for the family vehicle segment, the OffSpace combined stylistic and structural elements of sport utility vehicles and multi-purpose vehicles within a unified platform. The project was executed in collaboration with Granstudio, a design firm headquartered in Turin, Italy. The OffSpace adopted a cab-forward layout and measured approximately five meters in overall length, two meters in width, and 1.65 meters in height, with a wheelbase close to three meters. The dimensional configuration allowed for a six-seat interior organized across two rows. The design emphasized accessibility and internal volume while maintaining a low center of gravity and elongated stance. Exterior treatment employed diamond-cut surfaces, segmented character lines, and extensive use of chrome accents. The upper body was composed of large glazed sections, reinforcing the concept’s association with openness and transparency. The interior of the vehicle was structured around a minimalistic dashboard, featuring a continuous panoramic digital display and a raised center console with a touch-sensitive interface. Materials combined traditional and contemporary motifs, including wood trim, polished metal, and synthetic textiles. Ergonomic consideration was given to both visual and haptic feedback in control surfaces. The user interface supported third-party integration with communication and media platforms. Embedded sensors were incorporated into the seating and climate control systems to facilitate real-time health and comfort monitoring. The concept was presented as an electric vehicle, although technical specifications regarding propulsion architecture, battery capacity, or performance metrics were not disclosed at the time of exhibition. The OffSpace functioned primarily as a stylistic and technological manifesto, intended to inform the design direction of future models within the Senova brand portfolio. Following its introduction, elements of the OffSpace’s design language were integrated into later BAIC products, preceding the consolidation of Senova-branded vehicles under the “Beijing” nameplate. The OffSpace remains an illustrative example of mid-2010s Chinese concept vehicle design, reflecting a period of experimentation with form, interior architecture, and user interface integration in alignment with projected urban mobility trends.
