Two Volvo P1800 ES prototypes were constructed from finished coupes removed from production.
Vehicle Overview
The first Volvo P1800 Beach Car was built on chassis number 26142 by the Italian firm Coggiola. The secondo Volvo P1800 was built by Frua and was called “Rocket”. A number of elements in the beach car were not carried over to the final production ES’s. For instance, the Volvo P1800 Beach Car ‘s seat material was done in light brown velour. The rear seat was also larger than the production ES and had two large storage boxes forward of each wheel well. Also not present on the final ES and a unique part of the beach car were swiveling quarter-windows located above the rear wheel. These widows swiveled open on each side of the tail gate.
