LMX Sirex Coupé

The LMX Sirex Coupé: the rare V6 powered coupé.

Vehicle Overview

The LMX Sirex stands as a testament to the ingenuity of Italian automotive design during the late 1960s. Crafted as a 2-door, 2-seater sports car, it represented the sole creation of LMX Automobile SRL, a venture established by Michel Liprandi and Giovanni Mandelli. Helming the design was the illustrious Franco Scaglione, whose artistic vision brought the Sirex to life. Debuting at the prestigious 1968 Turin Auto Show, the LMX Sirex faced an unconventional introduction. Hindered by financial constraints, Liprandi and Mandelli showcased their creation outside the exhibition hall, underscoring their determination to bring their automotive dream to fruition despite adversity. Underneath its sleek exterior, the LMX Sirex boasted a potent 2.3 L V6 Ford Taunus engine, delivering exhilarating performance on the road. However, customers were also given the option to select alternative powertrains to suit their preferences, emphasizing the bespoke nature of each Sirex model. Available in both convertible and coupé variants, the LMX Sirex epitomized versatility in design. Eurostyle, in collaboration with Scaglione, crafted the stunning bodywork, while the car rode on a central backbone chassis, ensuring structural integrity and optimal handling dynamics. Despite its promise and allure, production of the LMX Sirex was limited. Between 1968 and 1973, only fifty units rolled off the assembly line, adding to its mystique and exclusivity. Following the cessation of LMX’s operations, SAMAS took up the mantle, constructing an additional twenty vehicles to satisfy lingering demand. Though its production run was brief, the LMX Sirex left an indelible mark on automotive history, celebrated for its striking design, dynamic performance, and scarcity. Each model serves as a testament to the dedication and passion of its creators, perpetuating its legacy as a coveted icon of Italian craftsmanship and innovation.
